Choosing and using your own computer as a Keyzapp Kiosk

There are a few technical considerations when setting up your own computer as a kiosk. Please read this very carefully and ask us if there is anything you don't understand before purchasing your own equipment. We are always happy to advise.
Why setup your own kiosk?
Keyzapp's kiosk mode makes it really easy to manage keys from a single place (usually next to the key cabinet). A Keyzapp Kiosk can be used instead of or alongside other methods to access Keyzapp, such as a mobile phone, or a desktop computer.
You can
buy a preconfigured kiosk from us, but some people prefer to use their own computer to save on cost (perhaps you have an old laptop that is gathering dust?). We fully support this. Anyone using a professional subscription or above can turn any Windows PC into a kiosk.
What you need to set up your own kiosk
- A Windows laptop or PC (note it is not currently possible to use a ChromeOS laptop like a Chromebook as a kiosk)
- A licensed copy of Windows 7 or above running on the laptop
- A Keyzapp reader
- A Keyzapp subscription at Professional level or above
Do we advise any particular type of laptop?

WARNING: Do not buy a ChromeOS laptop like a Chromebook, as they do not work with the Keyzapp Reader.
Due to the constantly changing laptop market, we don't make direct recommendations, however our support team are always happy to validate the specification of a laptop for you if you are purchasing one.
What to do next
Once you have a laptop ready for use. There are a few steps that you should follow to set it up. You can try these yourself, or if easier, our team can walk you through it.
- Configure the PC with the best settings for Kiosk Mode
- Download and install Google Chrome
- Configure Chrome to Use Kiosk Mode
- Set up a Kiosk User account in Keyzapp
- Log in with the Kiosk Account.
