Google Chrome Kiosk Mode

Google Chrome Kiosk Mode

If you have a PC or kiosk set up to exclusively use Keyzapp, we recommend using Kiosk Mode.

Kiosk mode is a special full-screen mode for the Google Chrome browser, which prevents it from opening multiple tabs and prevents users from going to web sites using the URL navigation bar.
Here's our recommended approach for setting up a dedicated Kiosk:
  1. Install Google Chrome on the PC, and set it as the default browser
  2. If a Google Chrome shortcut is already on the desktop, edit this shortcut, or create a new shortcut  to Google Chrome.
  3. Right-click the shortcut and select "Properties"
  4. Select the "Shortcut" tab and add go to the end of the Target field.
  5. Update the target of the shortcut to point at the Kiosk login URL:
    1. Press space and add the --kiosk command at the end of the Target field
    2. After the –kiosk command, add a further space and add the particular URL to be launched in Kiosk Mode (ie. https://app.keyzapp.com/ in the UK, or https://na.keyzapp.com/ in North America)
    3. After this after the following Account/Login?userName=
    4. Add the user name of you kiosk account following this
    5. The completed target field should look something like this:
      "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --kiosk https://app.keyzapp.com/Account/Login?userName=mykiosk
  6. Rename the Shortcut to "Keyzapp  Kiosk"

Test Kiosk Mode

  1. Double click the kiosk icon
  2. Browser should open full screen, at either the Kiosk Login screen or the Kiosk Home screen (asking you to scan an ID to continue)
  3. Exit the kiosk using the key combination Alt+F4
Alert
Exiting from Chrome kiosk mode is intentionally difficult - either swipe the screen from the top left hand corner and then click the desktop, or use the key combination Alt-F4.

Troubleshooting

When I click the shortcut, Chrome doesn't open in full screen mode

Close all other Chrome Windows.  Kiosk mode will not work, if there's already a normal Chrome window open.
Check that target is correct in the shortcut.  After the quotation marks, there should be a space and then --kiosk

The kiosk page or login page doesn't open correctly

Check that you have the username correct in the shortcut.
If Keyzapp is already logged in as someone else, log out of that user account.

I can't log in to Kiosk mode

Check that you are using the correct username for the kiosk
Check the Shortcut is pointing to the correct Keyzapp server for your region.
