How to tap or scan your smart fobs and ID cards

Tapping & Scanning with Desktop & Laptop Computers

One of Keyzapp's most effective features is its use of smart fobs to allow you to tap or scan keys to sign them in and out quickly. You can also tap or scan ID fobs / cards if your company has ordered them, which makes issuing keys to people even quicker - two taps and a click and you're done! 

We offer two fob reader/scanner options - Keyzapp Readers and Barcode Scanners. Please read the appropriate instructions below depending on which option your company has chosen.

Tapping with Keyzapp Readers


  1. Ensure your Keyzapp Reader is plugged in and showing a red light
  2. Make sure the Keyzapp Companion programme is running by checking that the icon is present in your system tray in the bottom-right corner of your screen
  3. Tap your fob or ID card over the bottom half of the reader for half a second until you hear a beep and the light turns green
  4. Keyzapp will load automatically in your default browser

Scanning with Barcode Scanners

  1. Ensure your Barcode Scanner is plugged in 
  2. Make sure a web browser window is open and selected on your computer
  3. Scan the barcode on your fob or ID card by holding it a few centimetres in front of the scanner until you hear a beep
  4. Keyzapp will automatically load in your browser
